As if I don't have enough problems with food already...

It started out as an innocent mid-morning snack and as a sat on my couch watching a previously recorded episode of Dr. Phil my worst nightmare came true. It took one glance down at my Christmas Tree Cake to realize that there shouldn't be black things with legs in the icing!!!!

Little Debbie BUG

(click to enlarge pictures, I would suggest viewing them at the largest size for max effect) *grin*

I have now thrown up every last bit of that cake and have called "M..." foods and informed them of the little critter. They apologized and said they would send an envelope out to me with information on how to send them the specimen as well as free treats (okay I just puked my brains out because I almost ate a bug which happened to be in their treat and they are offering me free treats, yuk) to which I opted for a refund instead. They were also sure to inform me that they are inspected by the FDA as well as the Military and their plant is very clean.

Bug in Little Debbie
Okay so why is there a creepy crawly thing in my "D" Cake!?! I have eaten these cakes my entire life, I wonder how many bugs I have eaten? I may never be able to eat again and now my head is killing me from all the puking...

Little Debbie Bug

Oh, but wait! You haven't heard the worst part...
I bet you didn't know that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has a guideline list about how many insects, insect parts, insect eggs, rodent hairs, rodent feces that are allowed in food. It is really specific (x number of insect parts, but only x number of rodent hairs in a pound of wheat flour etc.). This stuff is ALLOWED in all food. It just has to be under a certain level.
Now, I know I may never eat again. Oh, man.

Oh no Kim! Ick! And that is so sick about the FDA site, but for some reason it just does not surprise me a bit. Man, I am going to be checking my food each and every time I go to take a bite.
